Welcome to Tabor Academy
Tabor’s web-site pictures our school for first-time visitors, alumni and long-time friends. I am always tempted to write that “Tabor is amazing” – but the beauty of our web-site is that every one who visits can draw that conclusion on their own! We hope the site brings to all a real sense of the spirit, engagement and the stunning breadth of interests, accomplishments and possibilities our students and faculty achieve. The site, itself, constantly grows and evolves with news, events, photographs, portraits and impressions of life in “the school by the sea” and we encourage all our visitors to put Tabor on your “favorites” list!
“Global Studies and “International Education,” lately buzzwords in schools across the country, have, almost from the first days of our founding one hundred and thirty five years ago, stood at the heart of Tabor’s philosophy and practice. International students have attended Tabor for more than a hundred years and Tabor students have been traveling to foreign lands for decades. We have been fortunate for a long time to strike what seems to us a healthy balance with about 70 of our 500 hundred students representing some twenty countries around the globe. We are American in our independence, our democratic commitment to individuals and our energy to achieve as a community. We are international in our commitment to the health of the planet, our enthusiasm and embrace of the cultural richness of the world and our respect for the complex history and often steeply challenging issues across the globe.
In our seaside location, our multiple academic, athletic and artistic programs, our unique ocean studies and laboratory facilities and, most particularly, in the exceptionally talented, diverse and disciplined student body, Tabor lives out a deep belief in the dignity of all peoples and a fundamental respect for those with high aspirations and a willingness to learn.
We hope the web-site turns abstractions like “philosophy” and “belief” and “diversity” and “global community” into visual realities. We invite you to visit our campus and see for yourself what extraordinary things can be achieved in a community founded on a long and deeply held belief that programs serve students and that our mission is to provide the best possible place to grow and mature for students from America and around the world.
