Quotes from students Week 1
"It was wicked fun.  I wish I could do it again."
"The M & M visibility test was a very different way of learning."
" I thought it was an amazing experience. Stressful at times and you have to learn to work together as a team. It really teaches you to work with your peers, much like you will be doing in the future."

Voyage 1- June 25-July 1           Chaperone: Mark Howland

Tabor Boy Voyage #1 left Marion on Sunday, June 25.  The group contained students from Massachusetts, Maine, Korea, Bermuda, New York and New Jersey.  After making stops at Logan Airport, Masconomet High School in Topsfield, MA, and Portland Airport, the bus arrived at Wayfarer Marina in Camden, Maine at 3:30 PM.   The students were taken by launch from Wayfarer Marina to the Tabor Boy, anchored in the outer harbor. All were on board the vessel by 4:00PM. Once aboard, students stowed their gear and were given a tour by the crew of the Tabor Boy.   They will then get ready for dinner prepared by Lexie Wilder, the student crew member and cook.  She is serving tonight spaghetti and garlic bread, with pecan pie for dessert. YUM!!  Tomorrow morning the Captain will go over safety, a necessary and important part of the experience.  They will depart sometime prior to lunch and head for Wreck Island/Stonington.  Here, they will go ashore and participate in intertidal work, organized by Aimee Rowe -Program Director. Tuesday, they will head over to Mt. Desert Island where on Wednesday morning they will hike up Acadia Mountain and swim in Echo Lake.  Wednesday afternoon, they will depart for Bar Harbor. The students will be able to have dinner in Bar Harbor Wednesday evening.  On Thursday, they head to Mackerel Cove on Swan's Island.  They will visit  an old printing press still in operation. Friday the Tabor Boy departs for Camden arriving in the outer harbor sometime in the afternoon.

When I asked Mark Howland, the chaperone, about any excitement during the ride north, he commented on 2 things.
1) Upon heading into Northern Massachusetts the rain had stopped and by Maine a glimmer of sunshine could be seen.

2) Upon stopping at a Mobile station to use the facilities, there turned out to be just one (facility)....so the Tabor Boy students lined up...and the people arriving to get gas lined up.....needless to say, quite a line formed for the use of 1 toilet.  They found this to be quite humorous!

The students were great on bus trip North, playing cards and conversing quietly.  Above I have listed a very general outline of the week.  During some days, Aimee Rowe conducts classes and in the evenings the crew provides activities.  I believe one night the Captain talks about Tabor and the history of the Tabor Boy. Please, if you have any questions or concerns during the week, don't hesitate to call me at Admissions 508-748-2000 x 2219....during the week or e-mail: lgeil@taboracademy.org.  It was a pleasure seeing many of you and getting to see members of our new incoming classes!!!!!  Leslie Geil
