The Hayden Library
The Hayden Library is open seven days a week for more than 80 hours each week. At least two members of the library's team of professional information specialists are available to help students with their information needs.
Students are encouraged to explore the library, get to know the members of the library staff, and, with their help, discover the constantly growing number and approaches to information-based problem solving in order to
- define their information need
- select the best resource(s) for their inquiry
- access and use resources to gather information
- evaluate and assess the efficacy of their findings relative to their needs, and finally
- develop sound solutions for the need they initially established or new ones that have developed as a result of their inquiry.
Besides its collection of almost 20,000 print resources, the library has a rapidly expanding collection of electronically-accessible resources including e-books, databases, CD-ROMS, portals, Web-sites, subscription services, online publications, and more. The library staff strives to keep pace with today's ever-changing information landscape and Tabor's curricula through intense efforts in the areas of collection development and refinement. Ready access to all of the library's resources is available through the library's web site.
Computers are located throughout the library's collection areas and in its two computer labs; all are available for student use, are part of the Tabor Academy Network, and are governed by the school's appropriate use policy. An increasing number of students prefer to take advantage of the library's WiFi environment and bring their personal wireless-enabled laptops to the library.
